My Very Own UBERSURPRISE!

I get to create beautiful jewellery and call it my job.

It feeds my soul, each design is different, each persons needs are a one off. The outcome and the look on someones face when they open one of our boxes is one of the greatest joys in my life.

Last week I had just that experience for myself. I thought my own family being rushed off our feet making Mother’s day gifts for our Uberkate peeps hadn’t had time to by me anything and so I bolted into Zara and did a little damage to the credit card.

On Sunday morning the children made me tea and toast and brought my Zara bag in to give to me.

I gave that knowing smile that ones gives when one has bought ones own gift and nodded and thanked them. They begged me to show them what I had bought – so with the same face I pulled out my new jeans and we all smiled knowingly at each other and they encouraged me to continue my show and tell.

I reached into the bag and pulled out… An UBERKATE JEWELLERY BOX…. My pulse quickened and I don’t know why, but I started to cry… (possibly my guilt at having hit the credit card so hard the day before?!)

I felt completely overwhelmed and teary because for once in my life I HAD NO IDEA what was inside the box.

I pulled the ribbon, carefully lifted the lid and with tears still streaming down my face I peered inside. What I found in there brought me completely undone – an expressions cuff, in solid gold, with my two babies handwriting, drawings and thoughts about me on it.

Mr Uber had collected precious cards from draws around the house as well as pictures the kids have given me for previous Mother’s days and with their help he lovingly recreated the best bits on the OUTSIDE and INSIDE of the cuff.

As I sit here and peer down at my arm I feel extreme emotion.

I feel gratitude that just a small part of my children’s innocence is forever captured in the metal of the cuff. I know I make jewellery for a living, but this piece is beyond special.

I have lots of lovely pieces that I have designed over the years, but this by far is my most cherished possession.
